City Cycle Group Ride!

Saturday City Cycle hosted its first group ride of the season with co-owner Eddy MacLeod and coaches Duane Franks and Dorette Franks of Trifiniti Endurance Coaching. We had about 25 riders come out to enjoy the day.

The day’s mission: sweat rate determination for Ironman distance members. This really speaks to the detail and effort involved in coaching these types of athletes. As coach Duane put it to me, “you cannot dehydrate on the bike then hop off and run a marathon.”

The riders are three weeks out from their event, so they did 125 miles from City Cycle in San Francisco to Chileno Valley and back. No more building up to IM distance; today they tackled some real miles.

Coach Dorette followed in a team car with extra clothes, water, food, and a scale. At pre-designated stops, riders were required to get off their bike and weigh themselves. The goal was to take in enough water and electrolytes as not to lose weight. A rider losing weight would know how much to drink to better hydrate on the bike so that so he/she would be ready for the run.

Thanks to all that came out! I hope you all do well at your upcoming events. And thanks to Coach Duane and Dorette! You guys run a great program!
